Evaluation- Progress from priliminary task to main task

I have come a long way from my preliminary task. especially with reference to using the technology and incorporating music and sound effects to make the radio sound more genuine. There may well be similarities between my main task and preliminary task however the level of improvement from preliminary to main is vast.

At the time that i started recording/ making my preliminary radio i new near to nothing about the technology i used to produce it and how to make it sound more genuine. I also spent less time preparing the script and took less time checking it over and making sure i was totally satisfied with it. Whereas for the main task i unremittingly checked through the script and sound effects i had chosen to make certain it sounded as real as possible and that i was happy with the calibre and worthiness of it all. In my mind the preliminary task was a way of getting an idea of the technology and software etc so that when it came to the main task i vaguely knew what i was doing. It was a good opportunity to get a feel for all the equipment.

A key facet that helped with the writing of my main script that i learnt from my preliminary task was that using audio and background effects you can make the listeners thing that a recording was taken outside or in various different places. This really allows for more creative script writing and was especially beneficial with reference to advertisements as it allowed my vast imagination to explore many more ideas than before and and allowed greater variety of choice for stories and adverts.

Here i will add my finished preliminary task alongside my finished main task. I am hopeful you will notice the vast improvement from preliminary to main task and you can notice the greater detail i went into in my main radio station compared with that of my preliminary radio.

evaluation- target audience

Local radio analysis in research and planningin my research and planning i encourperated the terget audience research with some of the other task that i did. for example whilst listening to and evaluating national radio and local radio i took two very different radio stations in terms of target audience and i evaluated the differences and the inteded attractions to each audience.

in addition to this i also evaluated both local and national news and radio to determine the key similarities and differences between them. heres the link to my analysis of one local radiostation.
BBC Surrey local radio analysis

I also had to make a questionnaire during research and planing to determine the type of radio listened to by different age groups.
My Questionnaire

My radio station Sport Talk Local is a local radio station in the area of Finchly which is based on sport content from local level, national and even international level. it is aimed at middle aged men who like sport manly although it is generally aimed at any audience that enjoy sport and are interested in sports news.
To emphasise the fact that the radio station is local i have clearly illustrated that the it is targeted at a local audience, for example in the name of the radio station is the word local thus it is also in the station jingle, in addition to this some of the stories are local stories or effect someone from the area and the area is mention neumerous times.

evaluation- using different conventions of real life media

In this post i will be discussing using examples how i encourperated real convensions of media to make my radio sound realistick.

During my research and planning stage i did alot of research and studdying into the 5 Ws, (who, what, where, when, why) which helped when writting my news stories to make them sound legitimate.
The 5 Ws

the biggest chunk of my script for the radio was the news bulletin. to preparefor this and make it sound as realistic as posible i did in depth research into news stories. i started by looking and anlysing over 10 local news stories and 10 national and international news stories to get a feel for the way in which they are presented and the types of stories that appear. another thing i wanted to see was the difference between local and national stories in both the way they are presented and the nature of the stories.

In addition to looking at the national and local stories and evaluating them i also listened to news bulletins in both national and local radio and analysed them in a simular fasion.

in both of these forms of media i evaluated the news values and 5 w's. i looked for the order of the stories in relation to the importance/ significance of the story and i also looked for the way the 5 w's are presented and the order in which this is done.

in my research and planning i looked into the type of adverts in regards to the inteded target audience. and on my radio station i tried to get the same type of thing for example in one of my adverts which i will put in just below i had an acting bit where there is a phone call going on with some attempt to enclude some comedy whilst having a voice over after the phone call.

Choosing My Radio Station Name

one of things i had to do whilst preparing my radio station was coming up with a name for it. I origonally came up with Finchley FM however i wanted something more origonal and not so specific so seeing as my radio station was a sports radio station i took inspiration from other radio stations simular in type and came up with the name, Sports Talk Local.

My Main Radio Script
